I'm just an old guy from California so I don't expect much of a response here...
I've been to Canada 4 times in my life:
The first time was as a kid with my folks and younger brother. We drove to Calgary, Banff and other surrounding areas on a site seeing family vacation. We stopped for the Calgary Stampede and visited the Columbia Icefields where we took a snowcat tour. It was awesome.
Years later my girlfriend and I flew to Seattle, rented a car and drove up the east side of the island to Port Mcneill where we joined a crew of kayakers for a week long paddling adventure. It too was awesome. We camped on V.I. and on little islands east of V.I. and really lucked out with the weather. We saw some Orcas up close and personal and it truly was an experience of a lifetime! Our guides hooked up a sauna tent and under a full moon, we sat inside and built up a sweat before jumping in to the salt water of Johnstone Strait... again and again.
In 5/04 I was lucky enough to have been invited as a crew member on a trip to west V.I. We towed a small boat from California and launched from the west coast. A couple hours later we were able to shuttle our gear to a beach, anchor the boat offshore, paddle our boards to shore and set up camp. Another lucky trip weather wise. Nice waves at a friendly and perfect little reef break.
We had such a good time we decided to try again in May of this year. We decided that this time we'd take it a little further north. We encountered a decent storm even by Canadian standards and holed up for the first week waiting for a break in the weather. We finally got our chance and headed out into open ocean in search of an area that would offer camping and surfing opportunities. We found several spots but missed out on swell.

Jason Fox, while surfing on the Island last weekend. You really get that this is not Hawaii, indo or anywhere tropical. Its straight up Canada, cold, heavy and dark. A nice added touch is the duck tape on the nose of the board.
