Surfrider Victoria & Surfrider Tofino have amalgamated into one chapter: Surfrider Foundation - Vancouver Island Chapter. Merges like this have occurred in places like Tasmania to downsize the executive committee and use only one bank account. There is still a Vancouver chapter, but we will be working under one non-profit group status.

SETAC Final Report on Sewage ...LETS RALLY!! Wednesday July 12th, 2006
»Hey Surfriders,

As you may know, SETAC is releasing it's final report on Victoria's Sewage problem. This report can go one of two ways; either there is a recommendation to equipt the city with sewage treatment, or not! In the end, this report is going to be a catalyst for some sort of action, and since Sewage Treatement...or the lack there of...is one of our concerns, I think that it's important that we organize to have a few folks show up to hear the recommendations. I know that groups like POOP, Georgia Strait Alliance, TBuck Suzuki Foundation, Seirra Club, Victoria Sewage Alliance, and a few others, are going to be out in full force, and I would love to have Surfrider represented!

That being said, I am planning an impromtu gathering to RALLY! We can bring out our sign, hand out some brochures, and raise some awareness and interest! Who's on board? The meeting is being held at the CRD headquarters, which is in the blocks between Douglas and Government Streets.

THE PLAN!!

To meet on the corner of Government and Fisgard, Weds. July 12th at the VQ Bakery at 12:45pm. From there, we can walk up and chit chat with other enviros before the show begins! I know that this is a work day for most, but perhaps you can take a late lunch?, or maybe your boss owes you favour?, or maybe if you can't come, send your dad, your gramma, your neighbour, or your dog to represent you!!

If you are planning on coming out, can you RSVP me by Wednesday morning at the latest? I'd like to have a sense of how many of us there will be. Thanks in advance and remember...this is a really important day, so come out in your Surfrider best and KICK SOME ASS!

Details:

SETAC Report: On July 12th at 1:30 p.m., The Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) will report its findings and make a recommendation about the future of sewage treatment to the CRD. The public is welcome, and everyone is invited to attend the meeting, which will be held at the CRD headquarters at 625 Fisgard Street.
