The 5th annual CSO surfing contest has just wrapped up in Lincoln City, Oregon. This event was held at Road’s End State Park on June 30th and July 1st. This event was a benefit for the Christian Surfers of Oregon. The two day event drew more than 75 competitors and many families. The event was judged by the Pacific Northwest Judges.

On Saturday June 30th, the first heats started at 7:00 AM. The event concluded at 2 PM on Sunday with the awards ceremony immediately following the competition. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, 30 + heats were run with most being 15 minute heats. The weather was windy and foggy at times on Saturday, and cleared up nicely on Sunday for the finals with a blue sky and great beach temperatures. The waves varied in the two to six foot range with wind an issue on Saturday. The event was family friendly with a special Menehunes Division. In this division, youth 11 and younger surfed with their parents in the water which was a crowd favorite. This was a new division for 2007, as was the two man final heats in which the top two finalists in the Open Divisions had to face off and surf against each other to determine the overall division winner.

The CSO is a chapter of the national Christian Surfers. Christian Surfers was founded to link the church and the beach communities. The CSO also sponsors local Bible studies and outdoor events. Funds raised from the 2007 CSO will be used to fund scholarships for youth, to send CSO volunteers to a national Leadership Summit and other CSO activities.
