Support Your Local Surfboard Builder

Summer is almost upon us. The sun is out, the waves are getting small, and maybe its time to look for a bit more foam in your surfboard. When thinking of going shopping for a new board for summer don't forget to support your local shaper. There is some serious Shaping and Glassing talent on Vancouver Island and we need to support them to keep them alive.

Ark Surfboards out of Parksville is one of them.

I first met Lorne Acheson of Ark Surfboards about a year ago. I saw him in the parking lot with A beautiful Twin fin fish under his arm with one of the nicest resin tints i had ever seen. I have been surfing for 15 years now and have seen a lot of pretty boards along my travels. Lorne has a gift and is a perfectionist which is a great combo when getting a board made by him. Every new board i see come out of his shop and into the surf shops is better than the next.

I have owned an Ark also now for the past 7 months and seriously it was the only board i rode all winter. Crazy Fun, and thats what its all about. When ever i was on one of my old boards i was thinking about how my Ark would have rode the waves while i was on them. There beautiful and they are so user friendly. The one comment that i repeatedly here is that Ark Surfboards are fast & are beautiful. He tends to make them have a bit more flat in the bottom and wider templates to get speed and hold it through flat sections which we have a lot of on the west coast. Plus you can hang these things on your wall as pieces of art they are that well made. He also hand foils his keel finns a out of Baltic Birtch which are pieces of art on there own.
