Video evidence is being analysed but organizers are confident that today at the famous Kuta Beach, Bali, hoards of spectators and keen boardriders gathered in a show of unity to watch 53 surfers attempt to break the world record for the most people to ride a single wave simultaneously.

Fosters Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Menís World Tour, Billabong Pro, Jeffreys Bay. 12 Ė 22 July 2005.

The 22 annual Billabong Pro, Jeffreys Bay, is the sixth stop on the Fosters ASP Menís World Tour and features the top 45 surfers in world and three wild card surfers with R2 million in prize money. Included in the world class line up are seven times ASP world champion Kelly Slater (Fl, USA) who is the defending champion and three times ASP world champion Andy Irons (Kauai, Hawaii).

Rookie Mikael Picon (France) (pictured) scored a sensational upset when he eliminated current ASP world number eight and former ASP world champion CJ Hobgood (USA) in round two of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay today. Picon advanced to round three.

Seven times Fosters ASP World Champion and defending Billabong Pro champion Kelly Slater (Cocoa Beach, Florida, USA) (pictured) kicked off his Billabong Pro campaign with a bang, posting two near perfect scores to defeat wildcard wildcardSterling Spencer (USA) in round two at Jeffreys Bay today. Slater, who missed his round one heat due to being delayed in transit from the USA, surfed the losers round two to advance to round three.

Despite the small 0.5- 1 meter waves, Slater managed to slip in and out of two clean looking barrels to keep young Sterling at bay.

Von Zipper wildcard Damien Fahrenfort (Cape Town, RSA) (pictured) blitzed through his round one heat of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa today. Fahrenfort caused a major upset when he sidelined current ASP world number six Damien Hobgood (USA) and Fred Patacchia (Haw) to the losers round, advancing directly to round three.

Former Amateur World Junior Champion Jordy Smith,18, (Durban, RSA) (pictured) scored a sensational upset when he sidelined world number 33 Luke Stedman (Aus) and world number seven Taj Burrow (Aus) to the losers round two at the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa today. Smith advanced through the VonZipper Trials this morning earning a wildcard into the main event and impressed all with his powerful surfing and overall heat score of 17.17 (out of a possible 20 points). Smith advanced directly to round three.

Brazilian Yuri Sodre (Rio De Janeiro) (pictured) scored an upset when he beat current ASP world number three Bobby Martinez (USA) and former ASP world champion Mark Occhilupo (Aus) in round one of the Billabong Pro at Jeffreys Bay, South Africa today. Sodre advanced to round three, sidelining Martinez and Occhilupo to the losers round two.
