Bud Browne died on July 25, in San Luis Obispo, CA.
There will be a Public Memorial on 8/25 @ 7pm @ Waimea Falls Park on Oahu, Hawaii.
John Elwell: Anna Trent who has been caring for Bud Browne called Linda Benson and said Bud passed away yesterday. I think he was 96. He was of course the real pioneer motion picture surf maker. He excited us to go surfing in Hawaii and other places. He was a real nice guy and will be well remembered.

Bud Browne, known as “the father of surf films,” began shooting footage on 8- and 16-millimeter cameras in the late 1940s. He screened his first film, the 45-minute-long “Hawaii Surfing Movies,” in California beach towns in 1953. Admission cost 65 cents.
