In an era where punk kids dominate most skate parks by flipping their boards like McDonald's hamburgers, they all seem to look alike. Even the mini rampers are not much different, but when you get into the deeper and steeper stuff like Bonsor, Hastings and the RDS vert ramp, you must be brain dead if you don't notice the Front Side Kid!! At 12 years old, not only does this fearless little dude skate with passion, he can out shred most advance skaters.
I have always believed that to be good at anything you need to do it all the time and when you are good, people will take notice. With that said, this session belonged to James Clarke "The Front Side Kid" as he was interviewed and shot ripping up the whole park at Hastings in a report on his extraordinary ability as a talented young skateboarder and not just a punk kid from East Vancouver. CBC's Sports Reporter Karin Larsen also wanted an "old guy" as a supporting cast to this story and I was it. Not only was I honored, I was stoked at the opportunity to support this unique kid with a ton of potential in an effort to keep vert skating alive. In addition, I want to see him grow!
I believe this will be on CBC this coming Wednesday May 16, 2007 on the 12-12:30pm show and again at about 7:00pm in the evening after the Buffalo/Ottawa hockey game on Canada Now.
