skate trip down the Oregon Coast - photos + trip report from arrWee

Thanksgiving weekend skatetrip down the Oregon Coast

Thanksgiving weekend came and a last minute decision was "hey let's go!" so we quickly packed the crew and boards and off we went. Where? Down to the Oregon Coast where pool coping is the norm and where the tiles bring along big smiles.

We zig zaged down the I-5 hitting Lincoln City as the furthest destination but first stop was none other than Portland's Pier Park. It's the killer fullpipe and the mother of all bowls in the Pacific Northwest as a way to really get into the spirit. Stand on the deck and look down, if your knees aren't shaking you aint alive. You skate here, you can skate anywhere as the biggest challenge is to finding the way out if you bail to the bottom of the bowl!

Next stop was downtown Portland in search for Burnside only to find a public market to kill some time. Once at Burnside some dude was off roading with a jeep in the skate park, check out the pics as it spoiled the session but did provide a form of entertainment of a different kind. This is been a 20 plus year creation and the plan is to keep expanding as we did get a chance to see a few locals ripping.

Following Burnside was Glenhaven which was close by so we decided to check it out as recommended by a local and a good choice. It's a typical american skate park with a nice tight kidney shape pool with concrete coping, the street section looked good and had a variety of obstacles to keep kids busy with the addition of a mellower bowl which provides a little of everything.

As the sun sets, off to Linocln City on day 2 and what a treat... so close to the beach with a rooftop over one section with a total of 3 different sections to accommodate all skill levels. The snake run leading to the 13 foot bowl is so fast you'll wish you are wearing a set of leathers and a diaper to survive a slam. And one dude there was shredding it like a mini ramp padless! A must visit for sure if you are ever close to the area and the beaches when you see the pics will speak for itself... endless.

With that said, we hit several beaches which is pretty cool as they let you drive right down and park. What a great concept as we were there watching surfer dudes do there thing and climbed a mountain of sand. So cool as I'm sure it's a breathtaking summer destination packed with surf and skate activities.

On route home we hit Battle Ground in Washington which is another gem and a must stop in that area. Cleverly laid out snake run to a huge bowl at the end and a capsule at the other has lots of flow with the ability to generate many lines. Not to mention a nicely poured clover bowl and a wide open street section, dam wish i could of stayed longer.

Next was Vancouver Washington and the layout there was pretty cool with of course a big bowl at the end and another deeper capsule that so fast and dark, you feel like being knocked around in a Maytag dryer. By now the old legs are slowing down and we still have one more stop. As the sun sets we are reaching my old time favorite, the Kent Washington full pipe which makes me feel right at home for a quick session and a little bit of shopping before we head home.

Cheers, Wee - arrWee.com
